Thresholds is a group of three works (2 brooches and 1 ring) which make a comment on the contemporary global migrant crisis. These works metaphorically and literally speak about the weight of the issue. Based on my lived experiences, these works focus on how migrants experience living intercultural and in-between. Each work, a mass of grey, constructed from numerous layers of masking tape are cut out in the form of Australian native florals meticulously pressed onto it other.
In detail, these images can be identified, but looking at it together, the object is ambiguous, and the visual imagery is in disorientation. The tension and density built from the layers speak about the weight and complexities both globally and individually. Furthermore, the use of non-precious and perishable tape further references the fragility concerned by the conditions of human plight.
