Jewellery and objects
NEW VISIONS IN OBJECT DESIGN
UNSW - AD Space Gallery
28th May - 7th June 2024
Championing Design Students at UNSW Art + Design
I had the pleasure to mentor and work with students to create an outstanding jewellery and object design exhibition. I feel honoured to work with students in this exhibition and felt important that I needed to document this memory here.
A small student-led committee was formed and we identified strengths in each of our roles. Committee Members include; Students; Aimee Soo, Bic Tieu (lecturer), Li Oun Liau, and Paris Loke-Jeffery.
Design + Graphic Collateral by Li Oun Liaud by Li Oun Liau.
As a team, we worked together to achieve a wonderful show. From an EOI process to selection, curating, building furniture for display, graphic and branding for posters, room sheets and a beautiful catalogue, marketing and catering. See Instagram handle @unsw_student_experience
I reached out to jewellery and ceramic suppliers for object award sponsorship supporting this student-led exhibition;
Jewellers and Metalsmith Group of Australia (JMGA NSW)
Australian Jewellers Supplies (AJS)
Blackwattle Pottery Supplies
The Making Centre – UNSW
The UNSW Art & Design Award
This exhibition brings together a selection of works from students who have studied in the Object discipline at UNSW Art & Design. In the practice of object making, students are rigorously exploring ideas through expressions of forms and materials. Our students come from many diverse backgrounds both here and afar and their works touch on issues connecting culture, environments, identity, and sustainability through translation of material design.
The range of works presented are from the Object Design Studio Discipline and Electives, showcases craftsmanship, experimentation, and wonderment. The exhibition is student-led and aims to celebrate the amazing works coming out of the jewellery, ceramic and wood workshops.
It has been an absolute delight to teach the Object Design discipline and electives to the next generation of designers and see the incredible works emerge from this space. This exhibition was conceived through recognising the limited object focus activities on campus and thus established by the members of the Jewellery Making Club. We hope this exhibition can educate and inspire future collaborations and community. The committee leading this includes students; Aimee Soo, Bic Tieu (lecturer), Li Oun Liau, and Paris Loke-Jeffery.
A big massive thank you especially to Li Oun Liau for all her graphic design work and branding for this project.
